The Bathroom is a Stage

It is their world

They think I am simply living in it

I paint a smile on my face

And walk into that space

With a kink in my step

And a swing to my hips

Their comfort is key

And I know I have the potential

To be intimidating

I know the racing mind

The alert eyes

Raise your voice an octave

Fix your hair

Shoulders back

Chest out

Perform femininity in boys' clothes

You are safe

And I am sorry

If I made you feel otherwise

I’ll be gone soon

Or so the doctor says

But I may make fleeting visits

If that’s okay

I don’t think the other side of the wall

Smells half as good

As the dirtiest cubicle on this one
