Who Is It For?
The ceiling mirrors my blank and endless stare
As I push aside my phone from my face and contemplate
Who is it for?
Arguments and counter arguments over the right to life
Are we really arguing over the right
To life?
And my echo chamber is cavernous but I already know all this
So who is it for?
Comments stream like ribbons from a river fed
By sources fresh and foul
“I feel so helpless”
I don’t know enough”
“What can I do?”
Do you say that for the people who are dying?
Or do you say that for you?
Open your eyes
Watch and listen and share and learn
Bear witness to the world and the way it is being left to burn
We will not be forgiven if we look away
Though I implore you to understand
The threat of lack of forgiveness is not what should compel you to stay
I have nothing to give but my words
My voice is yours to use or ignore
But please ask yourself
As you take up space in a conversation on genocide, queerness, land back, race
Who is it for?
